We travel for various reasons, to relax and recharge, to gain new experiences and memories, to learn about different cultures and their history. In terms of history and culture, Europe is definitely the most interesting continent. Spending your vacation in almost any European capital is a wise choice, as you will have a memorable experience. However, if you are to truly explore the essence of the European spirit, then you should make some towns your top priority. Here is the list of 6 cities in Europe that everyone should visit on their travels.

Venice

I find this city to be the most interesting one, due to the fact that you can go on foot or by gondola if you have enough cash. It is not an everyday sight to see a city on water, however, I must admit Venice does have a bit of an unpleasant scent. Also, if you are not very fond of pigeons, like me, I suggest you stay away from the town’s centre. Venice has wonderful architecture and it is indeed a magical place. Regardless of the season, you will see a lot of visitors in Venice.

Rome

Since we started with Italy, we can’t go without mentioning Rome. This majestic capitol will leave you breathless, and you will be able to see some world-renowned monuments there: the Colosseum, Vatican City, and numerous churches and fountains. You can have a romantic ride in a chariot, but if you are planning on having nice dinners and buying clothes in Rome, you’ll need a fairly large wallet, because this town is not very forgiving when it comes to reckless shopping sprees. Regardless of the price, the beauty of Rome alone will be more than enough to call this a worthy trip.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is great for a few reasons. First, you can commute via bicycle and not feel weird about it, since it is a common sight to see. Second, you can visit great museums from WWII, and see the legendary diary of Anne Frank and you can even find accommodation close to the museum thanks to the guys at Amsterdam Stay. Third ,you can find accommodation easily, by opting for rental apartments and enjoy the vivid nightlife. Forth, you can try some of the best cheeses in the world, and they are served as a casual treat. Finally, there are a lot of good budget-friendly restaurants so, you can go wild when it comes to food.

London

When it comes to expensive cities in Europe, London is definitely the champion, but this capital has really a lot to offer. There are so many museums you can visit, and the amount of information you will absorb is truly priceless. You can go to the Imperial War Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Science Museum, National Maritime Museum, National History Museum, and finally, the British Museum. It goes without saying that you should check out the famous Big Ben clock tower, take a ride in a double decker, and take a picture of the queen’s guards, these things are way past being cliché, it is an obligatory custom now.

Paris

When you read the title you probably knew that the city of light will appear on the list, and here it is. Paris is the best place to observe some of the greatest art pieces this world has to offer. I am talking about the Louver of course, the museum where Da Vinci’s famous Mona Lisa is kept. Another impressive sight in Louvre is the level of security around the picture, so you will be impressed even if you are not a fan of the painting. Clearly, you cannot go to Paris without seeing how it looks from the top of the Eiffel Tower, so be ready to wait in lines.

Athens

Greek is a country with the most interesting mythology, plus we should never forget that the Greeks are fathers of philosophy. You can find out a lot about their history, culture and pantheon by visiting Athens. It is no wonder that schools in Europe place it as an obligatory city for a field trip. You can educate yourself, all while enjoying Greece’s many wonderful bays. Just hope their economic crisis does not take its toll, because you can already have some trouble on their border, let alone if things take a turn for the worse.
