Being one of the top ten tourist attractions in Europe, Amsterdam has a lot to offer. Most people visit Amsterdam to set off in an adventure or for sightseeing, but there’s a lot more to Amsterdam than that. Other than their neglected culture and numerous landmarks, Amsterdam is an important business spot that simply can be bypassed. So, whether you’d like to invest into this capital or you’re simply in for a conference, there’s a couple of things you should know about.

How to Move Around

Did you know that Amsterdam is ranked as the second most bike-friendly city in the world? Up to 2015 it was the first on the list, but because of Copenhagen’s remarkable development, it fell a bit behind. So, when in Amsterdam, travel as locals do! It’s the cheapest and probably the fastest way to get there — driving in this city is a torture, so you should definitely avoid cars or taxis. However, people in Amsterdam take biking quite seriously, so you need to be aware of their rules so you don’t get in trouble or worse — get injured. This isn’t as bad as it sounds — you only need to avoid walking on biking paths and try not to get in someone’s way. As long as you do not endanger anyone’s personal space, you’ll be just fine.

Where to Stay

Being a huge tourist attraction, Amsterdam has a lot of accommodation option. However, you might want to explore your options before you get there, so you don’t get ripped off — like with any big city, hotel rooms and their services in general are pricy. You should look for alternative and more comfortable places to stay, e.g. renting apartments which can be done for group stays as well , through companies like Amsterdam Escape — they are cheaper, there are no problems with lack of privacy or space, and they come in all shapes and sizes, so you’ll be able to find exactly what you’re looking for. Also, you don’t need to worry about locations, because this is a highly developed network, and I’m sure you’ll find an appropriate spot.

How to Do Business

It all depends on the reason of your visit, really. If you’d like to join or to invest in a startup, you should know that there are many prospective ones — people in Amsterdam are unusually creative (I wonder why). Their options are so widely open that you can even organize a conference, book an appropriately equipped office and plan practically any event that comes to your mind. Amsterdam is one of the hottest locations when it comes to economics events, revolutionary innovations, raising awareness on various subjects and — of course — tourism development.

What to Do

Speaking of tourism — you really can’t do better than Amsterdam. Best of all, you don’t have to plan your year around a specific week or month to visit this wild city, because it’s an attraction for tourists worldwide during the whole year. First of all, because of Amsterdam’s unusual legal boundaries, a lot of tourists tend to neglect its culturally significant sites, of which there are many. You shouldn’t allow something like this, so try to separate your days in two halves — sightseeing and museum visits by day, and partying by night. However, partying in this city should be taken seriously; there will be many different temptations around you, which makes it quite difficult to be worried about your safety. However, there’s just a couple of rules to remember — you mustn’t purchase or accept any kind of psychoactive gift that’s being offered on the street, and you shouldn’t keep all your money with you because — let’s face it — you’ll be an easy target for pickpockets. Oh yes, and mind your manners while you’re in the Red Light District.

Once you finally visit this great capital, I’m sure that you’ll fall in love with it. There’s one more thing I haven’t mentioned — Amsterdam is a great city to live in, so you should consider this option as well. I hope you’ve found this article insightful, and I’m really looking forward to your feedback.
