House Decorating Tips for the Lazy
Admit it — you have been tempted to start making small changes in your house on numerous occasions. You know, just to freshen things up a little bit without spending too much money. Yet, precisely because the changes are only minor, you never get round to actually doing something about them! You start browsing the Internet for help, but you always somehow end up on Facebook and YouTube for hours on end. And your home is not going to redecorate itself while you’re watching all those vines one after another. Luckily, we have done all of the hard work for you, and now it’s just up to you to read through our small ideas, as you might find them interesting and even perfectly suitable for your taste, personality and of course, budget. So, decorator-in-the-making, let us get started then!
Living Room
There are things to think about when arranging your living room that people wouldn’t necessarily take into account. For instance, the layout of the furniture. It is a good idea to have a sort of a focal point in the room around which you’re going to base the layout of your furniture, such as a table or a TV with a games console, if you have one. This is important for two reasons. Firstly, people need to be able to move around freely between pieces such as sofas and chairs. Makes sense, doesn’t it? But this is also to create conversation areas that are comfortable in the sense that people don’t have to keep turning around and twist their necks in the process, at a party or any kind of gathering, for instance. Pull furniture away from the walls to create a more intimate atmosphere and use rugs to define seating areas.
Bedroom
When painting your bedroom next time, you should keep in mind that not all colours produce the same atmosphere in the room. For instance, lighter colours make the space feels larger, whereas darker tones will make a room feel a bit smaller, but also warmer, which might be especially handy during the winter, for example. This implies that you will have to take the size of your room into account too, if you are to get the desired effect. Other tips might be ones to do with your bedside table, for instance. You might regard it as an unimportant item in your bedroom, but for example, it is recommended that the bedside table is about the same height as the mattress and with only a few things on it, since you will likely notice it looks much nicer that way than if it was significantly higher/lower and crammed with unimportant stuff. The kid’s room can be easily decorated with an old nba calendar, and bring a new look to your child’s room as well as recycle in the process.
Kitchen and dining room
Even in these areas, small improvements can make a lot of difference. For instance, replacing old cabinet hardware such as knobs with new ones can give your cabinets a new lease of life. You can go with, for example, antique brass or brushed nickel for a more modern look, but shop around for the best price, as these metal accessories can hugely vary in cost depending on the store you go to. Investing into a fancy-looking decorative light fixture might give you some amazing results, and you don’t even need to spend that much. You can actually get your hands on some of these for between 50 and 200 dollars, which in reality is not that much if you really want to shake things up with the interior of your home. Considering a chandelier would not be a bad idea. As over-the-top as it might sound, these things don’t just light up the place better, they can actually have an aura of their own that just brightens the whole atmosphere up, provided it matches the surroundings — i.e. your kitchen and dining room — nicely.
Bathroom
Finally, the best part of all! Well, again, depending on how you look at it…but all jokes aside, the bathroom can actually be a true source of inspiration for you to showcase all of your decorating creativity. It can be challenging too, but think about it this way…why should all bathrooms be as clinical and sterile-looking as they usually are? Granted, they serve a very specific purpose in the house, but a bathroom is still a part of your home just as any other room, and certainly one that people spend time in (sometimes a lot of it) on a regular basis. So why not introduce some colour? For instance, if your bathroom is all white (chances for that are high), why not get some coloured towels to provide a bit of a contrast? For example, why not get red towels that, together with the white, are the jersey colours of your favourite sports team? Even better, since bathrooms are often covered in tiles anyway, get those 3rd grade water paints out and paint some artistic motifs on the walls! In case you’re not quite the artistic type, but want to do something really radical about your bathroom, you could look into modular bathroom pods and all the different options that are on offer — these handy inventions have really been making a buzz in the redecoration world.
So, these are some of the suggestion that we find interesting and trendy when it comes to cheap and/or easy ways to redecorate your home or some of it parts in a relatively short period of time. Of course, much will depend on the specific tastes etc. but you get the gist of it. In any case, we hope that we’ve made your job easier by listing these, although the list is by no means exclusive, of course. Feel free to explore, find what you like best and what suits your wallet and you might find that you don’t even need to splurge that much or shop around for long to get that new and fresh home look you’ve wanted so badly.
